Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap (Pholiota adiposa) Liquid Culture Syringe – 10ml / 10cc
Grow a Beautiful Gourmet Mushroom with Rich Flavor
Cultivate Chestnut mushrooms with our premium Grospore 10ml (10cc) liquid culture syringe. Known for their attractive chestnut-brown caps, firm texture, and rich, slightly nutty flavor, Chestnut mushrooms are a favorite among gourmet growers and culinary enthusiasts. The species is Pholiota adiposa, and it is also sold as cinnamon cap or fat pholiota.
Their dense clusters and distinctive appearance make them an excellent choice for anyone looking to expand their collection with a visually striking and flavorful mushroom variety.
Which “Chestnut Mushroom” Is This?
“Chestnut mushroom” means three different things depending on where you shop, so here is exactly what you are getting. This culture is Pholiota adiposa, the chestnut mushroom of US cultivation, also called cinnamon cap. It is not the brown Agaricus bisporus sold as “chestnut mushroom” in UK and European supermarkets — that is cremini, crimini, baby bella or Swiss brown. It is also not Cyclocybe aegerita, which is sometimes called chestnut but which we sell separately as Black Poplar / Pioppino.
Why Choose Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Mushrooms?
- Beautiful Chestnut-Brown Caps – Produces attractive clusters with warm brown coloration and a naturally textured appearance.
- Rich, Nutty Flavor – Chestnut mushrooms offer a savory, slightly nutty taste that adds depth to a wide range of dishes.
- Firm, Meaty Texture – Their sturdy stems and tender caps hold up well during cooking.
- Excellent Culinary Versatility – Ideal for sautéing, roasting, soups, pasta, stir-fries, risotto, and other gourmet recipes.
- Rewarding to Cultivate – A distinctive variety for growers looking to explore mushrooms beyond traditional Oyster varieties.
Lab-Tested Liquid Culture for Reliable Growth
Our Grospore Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Liquid Culture Syringe contains vigorous living mycelium, lab-tested and prepared in our ISO-certified cleanroom to support healthy colonization and dependable cultivation performance.
Each 10ml (10cc) syringe offers:
- Live Mycelium, Not Spores – This is a liquid culture (LC) syringe, not a spore syringe. There is no germination step, so colonization begins as soon as you inoculate.
- Lab-Tested & ISO Cleanroom Prepared – Every batch is lab-tested for purity and prepared in an ISO-certified cleanroom, so what reaches you is clean, contaminant-free and viable.
- Faster Colonization – Active mycelium helps promote efficient colonization compared with starting from spores.
- Convenient 10ml (10cc) Syringe – 10cc and 10ml are the same volume. Easy to use with appropriately prepared sterile growing media, grain spawn or agar.
- Verified Genetics – Cloned, isolated Pholiota adiposa mycelium — correctly identified, not a mislabelled substitute.
How to Grow Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Mushrooms
- Prepare the Substrate – Hardwood sawdust-based substrates and other appropriately prepared hardwood materials are commonly used for Chestnut mushroom cultivation. The same syringe can also be used to inoculate sterilized grain spawn, grain jars or bags, or an agar plate.
- Inoculate – Inject 2–3cc (2–3ml) per grain jar or bag through a self-healing injection port, using sterile technique in a still air box or in front of a laminar flow hood.
- Colonize – Allow the mycelium to fully colonize the substrate under suitable incubation conditions.
- Initiate Fruiting – Once fully colonized, provide appropriate humidity, fresh-air exchange, indirect light, and suitable fruiting temperatures.
- Harvest & Enjoy – Harvest clusters while the caps are firm and well developed for the best texture and culinary quality.

Ran this into a couple grain jars and it moved way quicker than I expected. Mycelium looked clean, spread evenly, and never got that sketchy stalled-out vibe I’ve had with weaker syringes. Once transferred to hardwood substrate, it kept trucking and threw nice clustered fruits with solid texture. Pretty stoked with how dependable the whole run was. This one actually did the thing, no drama.

Compared with my previous chestnut culture from another seller, this one was more consistent from the start. The last syringe looked thin and took a long time to get moving on grain, while this culture showed healthy strands and colonized more evenly. I used similar jars, similar inoculation amounts, and the difference was noticeable. Not a miracle product, just a cleaner and more reliable run than the one I tried before.

As a first-timer, I was braced for a mess or no growth at all. Instead, both jars showed healthy colonization faster than I expected. That alone calmed me down a lot.

Reordered this after keeping notes from my first syringe, and I rarely buy the same culture twice unless the numbers make sense. On the first run, I used 2.5cc in each of two sterilized grain bags and had evenly distributed growth without any suspicious spots or slowdown. What convinced me to order again was consistency: same visible mycelial strands in the liquid, same clean draw through the needle, same steady colonization pattern after refrigeration. I also appreciate that this is clearly labeled as true Pholiota adiposa, because the chestnut naming confusion gets old fast when you are trying to compare results across grows. Second syringe performed close enough to the first that my notes almost overlapped. For me, that is the real reason to reorder.

Before ordering, I sent support a pretty basic question about whether this was actually Pholiota adiposa and not one of the other things sellers call chestnut. I did not want a vague sales reply. To their credit, they answered clearly, explained the naming mess, and told me exactly what the syringe contained. That should be standard, but a lot of places still dodge simple questions.
I also asked about storage because I was not using it the day it arrived. Same deal. Straight answer, actual temperature range, no canned nonsense. The culture itself looked clean and worked fine, but the reason I would buy here again is that support did not waste my time. I had questions, they answered them like competent adults. That is rarer than it should be.

Because this was my first time buying liquid culture, I was honestly more stressed about storing it than using it. I kept it upright in the fridge right away and ended up waiting almost a month before inoculating anything. I was worried I had ruined it by just letting it sit there, but it still looked healthy and performed fine when I finally used it. That was a big relief for a beginner like me.

After my last chestnut try stalled, this one took off. Glad I tried again.

Picked this up for my brother, and I ended up messaging customer service to confirm this was the true Pholiota adiposa chestnut, not cremini. They answered quickly and clearly, which made me feel a lot better about gifting it.

What I appreciated most was the labeling and the species clarification. I specifically wanted Pholiota adiposa and not cremini or pioppino, and this made that very clear. Syringe arrived cold, looked clean, and the culture took to grain without any weird slowdown. Nice option if you care about getting the exact variety you ordered.

Ordered Thursday 9:12 a.m., tracking updated by lunch, and it was on my porch Saturday morning.

Placed my order early in the week and had tracking later that day. The package moved without any long pauses and showed up sooner than I expected, which mattered because I wanted to inoculate grain that weekend. Everything arrived intact and properly packed. I cannot say much yet about long term performance, but on shipping alone this was efficient and easy to plan around.
Vernon Slade –
Reordered because the first syringe worked, plain and simple. I do not have patience for cultures that stall or get weird. This one stayed clean, moved fast, and gave me a reason to buy it again.

What stood out first was the packaging. Syringe was individually bagged, cap seated firmly, needle wrapped cleanly, and the plunger had no seepage at all. Cold pack was still cool, and nothing rattled around in the box.
