Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap (Pholiota adiposa) Liquid Culture Syringe – 10ml / 10cc
Grow a Beautiful Gourmet Mushroom with Rich Flavor
Cultivate Chestnut mushrooms with our premium Grospore 10ml (10cc) liquid culture syringe. Known for their attractive chestnut-brown caps, firm texture, and rich, slightly nutty flavor, Chestnut mushrooms are a favorite among gourmet growers and culinary enthusiasts. The species is Pholiota adiposa, and it is also sold as cinnamon cap or fat pholiota.
Their dense clusters and distinctive appearance make them an excellent choice for anyone looking to expand their collection with a visually striking and flavorful mushroom variety.
Which “Chestnut Mushroom” Is This?
“Chestnut mushroom” means three different things depending on where you shop, so here is exactly what you are getting. This culture is Pholiota adiposa, the chestnut mushroom of US cultivation, also called cinnamon cap. It is not the brown Agaricus bisporus sold as “chestnut mushroom” in UK and European supermarkets — that is cremini, crimini, baby bella or Swiss brown. It is also not Cyclocybe aegerita, which is sometimes called chestnut but which we sell separately as Black Poplar / Pioppino.
Why Choose Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Mushrooms?
- Beautiful Chestnut-Brown Caps – Produces attractive clusters with warm brown coloration and a naturally textured appearance.
- Rich, Nutty Flavor – Chestnut mushrooms offer a savory, slightly nutty taste that adds depth to a wide range of dishes.
- Firm, Meaty Texture – Their sturdy stems and tender caps hold up well during cooking.
- Excellent Culinary Versatility – Ideal for sautéing, roasting, soups, pasta, stir-fries, risotto, and other gourmet recipes.
- Rewarding to Cultivate – A distinctive variety for growers looking to explore mushrooms beyond traditional Oyster varieties.
Lab-Tested Liquid Culture for Reliable Growth
Our Grospore Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Liquid Culture Syringe contains vigorous living mycelium, lab-tested and prepared in our ISO-certified cleanroom to support healthy colonization and dependable cultivation performance.
Each 10ml (10cc) syringe offers:
- Live Mycelium, Not Spores – This is a liquid culture (LC) syringe, not a spore syringe. There is no germination step, so colonization begins as soon as you inoculate.
- Lab-Tested & ISO Cleanroom Prepared – Every batch is lab-tested for purity and prepared in an ISO-certified cleanroom, so what reaches you is clean, contaminant-free and viable.
- Faster Colonization – Active mycelium helps promote efficient colonization compared with starting from spores.
- Convenient 10ml (10cc) Syringe – 10cc and 10ml are the same volume. Easy to use with appropriately prepared sterile growing media, grain spawn or agar.
- Verified Genetics – Cloned, isolated Pholiota adiposa mycelium — correctly identified, not a mislabelled substitute.
How to Grow Chestnut / Cinnamon Cap Mushrooms
- Prepare the Substrate – Hardwood sawdust-based substrates and other appropriately prepared hardwood materials are commonly used for Chestnut mushroom cultivation. The same syringe can also be used to inoculate sterilized grain spawn, grain jars or bags, or an agar plate.
- Inoculate – Inject 2–3cc (2–3ml) per grain jar or bag through a self-healing injection port, using sterile technique in a still air box or in front of a laminar flow hood.
- Colonize – Allow the mycelium to fully colonize the substrate under suitable incubation conditions.
- Initiate Fruiting – Once fully colonized, provide appropriate humidity, fresh-air exchange, indirect light, and suitable fruiting temperatures.
- Harvest & Enjoy – Harvest clusters while the caps are firm and well developed for the best texture and culinary quality.

Before placing my order, I contacted customer service because I wanted to confirm this was the actual Pholiota adiposa culture and not the other mushrooms sometimes sold under the chestnut name. They replied with a clear explanation of the differences and also answered my question about using it first on grain before moving to a hardwood substrate. The response was direct and specific, which helped me decide to order. After it arrived, I had one more question about refrigerated storage since I was not ready to inoculate immediately. I got another useful reply without a long wait. The culture itself looked clean and performed normally for me, but the main reason I would order again is that support gave accurate information instead of vague sales language.

Tracked this culture on two grain jars and one agar plate because I wanted clean, measurable results. First visible expansion showed up quickly, and the growth stayed even instead of forming patchy weak spots. By the end of colonization, both jars had dense, bright mycelium with no off colors or slowdown. Once transferred to hardwood substrate, it fruited in tight clusters with sturdy stems and nicely colored caps. Really solid performance start to finish.

Picked this up for my dad because he likes trying less common gourmet varieties and wanted a true Pholiota culture, not one of the other mushrooms sold under the same chestnut name. He did not use it right away, so the fridge life mattered. He stored it chilled for a while before inoculating and said it still looked healthy and active when he finally got to it. That alone made it a good gift choice.

Being new to liquid culture, I was weirdly stressed about leaks or a bent needle. The syringe came sealed, clearly labeled, and packed securely. That alone made me feel a lot better before I even started.

Really loved how clear the instructions were. Easy to follow, even on my first run.
Edwin Fletcher –
Sent customer service a probably overcautious question about storage and inoculation. They replied like actual humans, which I appreciate in this age of canned wisdom. Clear answer, no upsell, no mystery. Almost suspiciously competent.

Instructions were clear enough. I didn’t have time to decode nonsense.

I rotate several gourmet cultures, and this one feels worth the price for clean, reliable starts.

Shipping was quick and the pack job was solid. Mine came with the needle sealed separately and an ice pack that was still cool, which I appreciated because my mailbox gets hot. I put this one to grain the same evening and it bounced off fast with even growth. If you care about clean handling and not just the culture itself, this was a good buy.
Glenn –
I bought this just for a two-jar hardwood grain test and honestly expected one to stall. Instead both took off cleanly and evenly. Still waiting on the final grow, but for that small trial run, it won me over.

I expected a canned reply when I asked customer service about storing the syringe and using it on grain. Instead I got a clear, specific answer the same day. That alone made me feel better about ordering, and they were right.
